Dancing the Tree of Life (Sefirot)

Kol Shofar and the Ilene Serlin Fund for Art and Culture is pleased to offer this series with Julie Emden, Director of Embodied Jewish Learning. Please join us for a wonderful and inspirational four-session workshop.

Do you seek balance, divine connection and inspiration in your day-to-day life? Join us as we embody divine attributes (Sefirot/ סְפִירוֹת) that map onto the body, based upon the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. 

During the seven weeks between the 2nd day of Passover (leaving Egypt) and the holiday of Shavuot (receiving Torah), we engage in a practice of Counting of the Omer.

In this dance and art series, we will study, embody, move and create art related to each of the seven lower Sefirot, in the ways they appear in our bodies, in our day-to-day lives, and in the order that they appear on a map of the body, beginning with Hesed (Lovingkindness) and ending with Malchut (Physical Divinity).

Each class will include time to study these qualities with our whole beings, with gentle movement, free-form dance guided by carefully curated playlists,and open space and time for art-making, creative writing, and sharing.

No previous experience with dance or knowledge about the Sefirot is required.
Please wear comfortable loosely layered clothing in which you can easily move

We ask that you try to attend the full series. If this is not possible please note the dates which you cannot attend when you register.
