EJWN October Community Gathering (Heshvan/חשון)
Breathing Together in Heshvan (חשון)
Integrating the Work of the High Holy Days
with Rabbi Diane Elliot
Monday, October 16, 2023 ~
Rosh Hodesh Heshvan 5784
10am PST | 1pm EST | 8 pm ISRAEL
After the great exhale of the High Holy Day season of teshuvah, when we dig deep into our souls and pour out our hearts in prayer and song, Heshvan quietly arrives, devoid of holy day celebrations, affording us space to inhale deeply, to let go and let be. In this session, Rabbi Diane will offer meditative somatic experiences designed to integrate the spiritual transformations of Elul, the Days of Awe, and the joyful harvest of Sukkot. As we turn toward the season of darkness, we’ll rest body, mind, and spirit, allowing the oceanic currents of the Cosmos to gently hold and rock us. You’ll want to wear loose, comfortable clothing and have a mat and blankets handy.
Rabbi Diane Elliot is a pioneer in the field of Jewish Embodiment. A spiritual teacher, ritual leader, writer, and spiritual director based in the San Francisco Bay Area, she inspires her students to become clearer channels for Presence through awareness and movement practices, chant, and nuanced interpretations of Jewish sacred text. Ordained at the Academy for Jewish Religion California in 2006, Diane serves as a Project Director for ALEPH Alliance for Jewish Renewal and is a founding steward of Taproot, a multi-generational community of Jewish artists, activists, and changemakers. Before training for the rabbinate she enjoyed a 25-year-career as a concert modern dancer, choreographer, and somatic movement therapist. Trained in multiple somatic modalities, she is a certified teacher of Body-Mind Centering®, having maintained a private somatic therapy practice for over 30 years; a Soul Memory Discovery facilitator; and the author of three books of sacred poetry, most recently "The Voice Is Movement."
